What is the difference between handrail and guardrail?

Railway crosses a residential area with new yellow and silver pedestrian steps. Overcast sky, autumn trees, and brick houses surround.

Ever walked through a city and noticed the railings guiding your way? These structures - handrails and guardrails - are more than just metal fixtures; they are essential for safety and accessibility. So, what sets them apart?

✔️Handrails provide support, helping people navigate slopes and steps with ease.

✔️Guardrails serve as protective barriers, preventing falls and shielding pedestrians from hazards.

✔️Sometimes, both systems can work together, where guardrails are mounted handrails to ensure both protection and assistance.
