Browning leaves, chilly mornings, and dark evenings - autumn has crept up on us once again. The rain drizzles down, the wind rustles through the trees, and nature has begun its seasonal shift. While we reach for our scarves and hot drinks, the railways face their own seasonal challenge: leaves.

London’s transport system is one of the busiest in the world, moving millions of people every day. But hidden beneath the streets and behind closed doors lies a forgotten network of stations and platforms that once served the capital, only to be abandoned, left empty, or repurposed for new uses.

Did you know that the handrails inside London Underground trains aren’t just chosen at random? They’re actually colour-coded to match the line you’re travelling on.

Austins Lane: The First KITE Step Installation A few years back, KITE Projects reached an important milestone with the installation of the first full KITE Step system at Austins Lane. This project was delivered for Transport for London (TfL) on the Tube network, where previously only a muddy path ran alongside the track, making safe access a challenge.

Safety. A value so important, but one that many take for granted. One slip or fall is all it takes to change a life. Whether you’re a project manager, a rail operator, or part of a local council, creating a safe environment isn’t optional, it’s an obligation. The question you should be asking is: Are your access points safe?

As Britain’s third heatwave of the summer continues to delight sun lovers and beachgoers, the scorching weather is placing intense strain on the country’s infrastructure, testing its resilience and adaptability.

And just like that, Rail Live 2025 is in the books! It was another awesome event this year with the sun shining, and over 7,000 people in attendance over two days of the show! The KITE Projects team had a very busy couple of days networking with railway professionals from across the industry.

Did you know that the people of Britain are most likely to choose to travel long-distance by train over car or plane than any other country in the world? The study, carried out by SavantaComes, found that 46% of Londoners prefer to travel long-distance by train, compared to 41% by car and just 10% via short haul flights. With these statistics in mind, it’s no wonder that the railway is one of the busiest infrastructure networks in the UK.

How often do you stop to think about the safety of level crossings? For millions of pedestrians and motorists, making the wrong decision can be life-changing. Yesterday, 5th June, was International Level Crossing Awareness Day, a worldwide initiative to improve safety at crossings, and reduce the number of incidents and near-misses.
