Are you enjoying the summer weather we’ve been having the past couple of weeks? We sure are! With the weather like this, many people will be spending more time outdoors; having a picnic, or going for a walk or cycle in the countryside. Havant Thicket, a nature reserve in the south of England is a popular destination for many families as they enjoy the summer months in the woodlands, fields and by the wetlands that the park has to offer.

The Havant Thicket Reservoir project is a collaboration between Southern Water and Portsmouth Water, and involves the building of a new reservoir, with the aim to ‘provide a new resource to supply drinking water in the water-stressed South East of England, while maximising the community and environmental benefits of a new raw water reservoir.’

The timeframe of this project is expected to take nine years in total, and is scheduled to be opened to the public by 2029. You can see a more detailed timeline of the project in the image below:

The new reservoir is expected to positively benefit the local community in Havant. Portsmouth water states that this project will bring new leisure and community facilities, including;

“The reservoir will be surrounded by paths for walking, cycling and horse riding (about 5km around the water), as well as having play and picnic areas. It could include a visitor centre as a focus point for the community and to host educational visits from schools and clubs. A new wetland habitat is also included in the plans as well as bird watching facilities, with hides, for nature lovers to visit.”

The new Havant Thicket reservoir will also bring environmental benefits, by protecting the chalk streams and securing a more reliable water source across the South East for years to come. The project looks to improve the local environment, by protecting the existing woodland and creating new wetlands, forests and parkland, supporting wildlife and birds’ habitats. These efforts all contribute to a sustainable environment.

At KITE Projects, we are proud to have contributed to the sustainability efforts of this project in the supply of steel handrail to the project site. With increasing focus on dry construction methods and minimal use of concrete, the KITE Handrail Clamp system offers a sustainable solution, whilst keeping the workers safe on site at Havant Thicket.

As we look forward to the completion of the Havant Thicket Reservoir, it’s clear that this project will bring numerous benefits to the community and environment. The combination of new recreational facilities, enhanced natural habitats, and a reliable water source will undoubtedly make Havant Thicket a valued destination for generations to come.

At KITE Projects, we remain committed to supporting sustainable initiatives like this, ensuring that our contributions help create a greener, safer, and more enjoyable future for everyone. If we collaborate together, we can continue to embrace and support such projects that aim to balance community with a sustainable environment.
